I was on a bowling team with a longtime Komen volunteer who asked me if I wanted to help pass our packets at Pier One and that hooked me!
Favorite Part of Working for Komen North Texas
I like that every day is different from the next. I get to meet some amazing people who have been affected and I know that we are making a difference for the men and women in our community.
What I Do In My Spare Time
I like to read, watch TV and spend time with my family – especially my cat, Max!

I grew up in Pittsburgh and moved to Texas when I was 21.

How I Got Involved
I was looking for an internship the summer before my senior year of college and my aunt (who happens to be a breast cancer survivor) suggested that I try applying at Komen. I had the best internship experience that summer and knew that working for a non-profit was for me. I lucked out when around the time of my graduation, the marketing manager at the Affiliate was stepping down to be a full-time mom. I interviewed and was lucky to land my dream job!
Favorite Part of Working for Komen North Texas
I like that I get to do such a range of work. My job responsibilities have given me the opportunity to learn new skills like Adobe Creative Suite and HTML coding.
What I Do In My Spare Time
I enjoy reading, watching TV, and playing with my puppy who coincidentally is the cutest dog in the whole wide world.
Fun Fact
I have won a first place medal in a marathon – I rowed crew in college, and my boat came in first place. We beat the second place team by nearly an hour and a half!

How I Got Involved
I have had a passion for Komen since I first worked for Komen 8 years ago. I enjoyed by time at HQ learning how we fulfill our mission on a global level but have always had interest in knowing more about the community efforts of Komen. When I saw there was an opportunity to utilize my education background at Komen North Texas, I knew it would be a perfect fit! I like working for an organization that makes a difference in the lives of our community members.

Other than working with a fabulous team of people, I love the grassroots feel of working at Komen North Texas and seeing the impact we make in the communities we live in.

How I Got Involved
My mother is a breast cancer survivor. I studied and worked in public health for many years and embraced Komen’s mission, so it worked perfectly that I could use my talents and be a part of an organization that was near to my heart.
Favorite Part of Working for Komen North Texas
I enjoy the company of my amazing co-workers who don’t do what they do for the money – we do it to make a community and global impact in the fight against breast cancer, and we have a darn good time doing it.
What I Do In My Spare Time
I enjoy playing tennis, doing yoga, trying new restaurants, skiing with the family, and going to the beach.

How I Got Involved
My best friend’s mother had recently died of breast cancer at the time I started working for Komen and one of my sorority sisters had just been diagnosed. Working for Komen North Texas was the perfect opportunity for me to join the fight against breast cancer.
Favorite Part of Working for Komen North Texas
I enjoy talking to people and hearing their stories.
What I Do In My Spare Time
I like to spend time with my kids, cooking, and painting. I’m also a huge sports fan, so watching any sport (especially my Texas A&M Aggies) fills most of my weekends.
Fun Fact
I make up songs for every situation imaginable. From getting the kids to brush their teeth to putting the dinner plates on the table or picking up the mail, I’ve got a song for it. “Brush, brush, brush your teeth, brush your teeth I say. If you brush them twice a day you keep the yuck away!”
